I felt like I have learned so much. I relearned things that I had forgotten again. Our mission president is drilling us on how to reteach lesson one.
Its great because now we get some training from the zone leaders which we didnt have before. Usually only the elders got help from the zone leaders.
Before I always cringed when we said we were going to teach about the restoration of the church. But that is how we ended up teaching the lesson. I feel ten times better now because when we teach lesson one, we are really teaching about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We testify more of the Savior and how we can follow his example. =)
We passed by a contact that we had this week.
It´s funny because I didn´t think that much would happen, but it turns out that the husband of the woman we contacted was reading the BOM the night before we came to visit them. He is somewhere in 2nd Nephi I think. We were so excited.
Also, the spirit was really strong as I learned from the Hermana Solis how to teach lesson one in a way that applied to the investigators.
At first I thought we were missing out on things that we really had to say and then she told me something. If it doesnt help them move towards repentance, you dont need to say it. I thought that was awesome. The spirit was so strong. And he said he will be baptized when he knows that the prophets really are called of God. I was pretty bummed because I didnt see our new investigator on sunday, but when we passed by his house later that day, he told us how he went to the stake center in Palmeras and how he will be seeing general conference next week. =) I know his faith is being strengthened and I am so excited for him!
Another crazy thing happened that I would love to share.
And really miracles happen ever day but I just recently started recording them in my journal. I didnt realize how much doing that helps you be grateful. No wonder the prophets have told us to keep one.
Anyway, this one day had been another day where appointment after appointment fell through and we weren´t sure why nobody we contacted didnt want to hear a little bit about Jesus Christ. Well, we were walking down the street where there were these 3 kids playing with a jump rope. My companion is awesome and asked if we could jump in. It was pretty fun, Im not going to lie.
We were just playing jump rope with the kids for a while when one of their moms came over and said hi and we introduced ourselves. We asked if we could share a message about Jesus Christ with her. She said sure and was super friendly. We found out later that her mom and sisters are mormon but that they live in a different city. She told us how different they were now.. how they dont drink, how they treat eachother differently, they have a relationship etc.
She flat out said she could feel a different Spirit of peace when we talked to her. We explained the Holy Spirit and how to pray and that in about twenty minutes we were going to go to a meeting for women all across the world where the prophet was going to speak. We asked if she wanted to come and she asked if she could bring her kids. We said sure! and we all hopped in a taxi to go to the stake center. It was really cool to see how the prophets begain to testify of the same things we had just talked to her about. About how through Christ we find peace, and how we need to pray sincerely. She had also told us about one of her rebelious sons who was 16 and doesnt live with her and it was awesome to see how in this conference for the Relief Society, they talked about how the best way to help their kids is with the gospel. I was so grateful to God that we were able to teach someone and really help. We´ve met her since then and she is praying and finding more peace in her life. She is also excited to read the words of the prophets from ancient america in the Book of Mormon.
Another thing that happened yesterday is that there were these kids that looked like they were about 7 years old.
All of them were screaming and one of them was choking another one. We ran over and I told them to listen to me. They started accusing one another of how someone threw his shoe in a bush and bunch of other ridiculous stuff. I told them the two boys that they both needed to say sorry. I promised them that they would feel better if they just said sorry.
The little girls were so cute they just kept nodding their heads in agreement. I asked if they could both just do that. One of them said ya.. and the other after said.. ya.
My companion pulled out stickers with happy faces. Then they got really excited and they both said sorry immediately. It was so cute seeing the expressions in their faces change. I dont know why but everyone here puts happy face stickers on their foreheads so we did that for all the kids and afterwards the two boys gave eachother a really big hug! It was so sweet. Especially when the littlest girl who looked actually like she was about 3 or 4 ran over and gave them both a hug too.
When we left they were all smiling and super happy.
I hadnt thought that anyone saw, but later my companion told me there had been a man on the other side of the lawn who was watching all of it. He smiled and waved to her when we left and then when I looked back, he had a huge smile on his face too.
I have this little game I play with myself while we are walking on the street. We see how many people we can make smile as we smile at them and say Buenos Dias! o Buenas Tardes! etc. Its really fun and always rewarding to see someone else smile.
Love you all and I am so grateful for all of your letters!
Keep being strong. Christ lives and directs his church, and the restored gospel of Jesus Christ really is what brings lasting peace and happiness.
